oil Paintings by Angela Fraleigh

Splattered with paint, Angela Fraleigh's female subjects look like they're desperately trying to say something. There's an uneasy vibe in her pieces, making her work even more captivating. Creating a lot of ambiguity, Fraleigh invites us to draw our own conclusions.

Fraleigh explains: "These tensions are heightened as paint itself becomes a tool for the disturbance; a main protagonist in the story and a carrier of meaning. Violent and seductive, threatening and unpredictable it complicates the image leaving us unsure if the figures are being birthed or eaten away; if the paint is taking control, acting as savior, interrupting, manipulating or providing the stimulus for the relationship."
Fraleigh earned a BFA in Painting at Boston University and a MFA in Painting/Printmaking at Yale. She currently lives in Brooklyn, NY and Allentown, PA.
